This year’s Lending Tech Live annual conference celebrated 30 years of innovation with credit unions gathered from across the nation and an impact that reached far beyond the industry. The event was a dynamic fusion of ideas, innovations, and networking, with industry legends and guest speakers who fueled the flame for expansion and growth.

Spoken Word Artist Steve Connell kicked off the conference with high energy, reflecting on the history of Origence. Our CEO, Tony Boutelle, added further commentary on the growth of Origence and the credit union industry. Tony shared how the company continues to invest in product enhancements that include evolving indirect lending, prioritizing top-of-funnel stategies, modernizing direct lending, and enhancing Origence Lending Services. He closed with his predictions for the next 30 years – 100% of cars sold online was one of them – and asked the audience to contribute theirs to Origence’s time capsule. Some of these predictions included flying cars, autonomous lending experiences, and EV domination. Only time will tell if these visions will come true.

In addition, four other keynote speakers shared messages from the main stage. Lisa Bodell, founder and CEO of FutureThink, challenged attendees to simplify today’s complexities to have more time for meaningful work. Kevin Surace, AI futurist and innovator, provided attendees with tangible use cases of how leaders can apply and benefit from AI today. Andrew Busch, economist, futurist, and consultant, offered an in-depth analysis of the state of the economy now and his predictions for the future. Chris Gerdes, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Stanford University, talked about the latest technology used in cars today and even shared clips of his work with autonomous cars.

This year’s breakout sessions focused on critical themes, such as auto lending trends, evolving EV buying and lending, AI strategies, growth, compliance, and the lending landscape. Experts from Origence, Zest AI, Experian, Tesla, J.D. Power, TransUnion, Equifax, America’s CU, and more led breakout sessions on the future of automotive technology, consumer credit trends, optimizing EV lending, and AI automation strategies for credit unions. Attendees gained insights into combating digital fraud, leveraging partnerships, and navigating regulatory changes. Panels and open forums provided practical steps for credit unions to enhance liquidity, manage compliance, and explore indirect lending opportunities, ensuring they remain competitive in a dynamic market environment.

Beyond the sessions, the conference offered ample opportunities for networking and collaboration. Attendees engaged in lively discussions during the networking breaks, exchanging ideas and forging new partnerships. The exhibition hall was a hub of activity, featuring cutting-edge solutions from leading technology providers. Providers like SavvyMoney, Alloy, Clutch, and Open Lending also gave 15-minute presentations on their solutions and how they partner with credit unions.

This year Origence welcomed CUBroadcast to Lending Tech Live to share our event with those who couldn’t join us. Interviews included Origence experts, partners, and credit unions in discussions about innovative technology solutions, trends, and successes.

Origence continued to focus on bringing women together by hosting a special Women in Leadership luncheon with Heather McKissick, the first female CEO of CUES, and Erika Hill, VP of marketing strategy for Origence. Heather shared invaluable insights on harnessing innate confidence, navigating gender dynamics, and fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for all professionals. She reminded the audience of the importance of asking for help and saying ‘no,’ balancing and sequencing, and knowing what you can control. Heather’s session left everyone inspired and equipped with practical strategies to excel as leaders in today’s ever-evolving landscape.

One of the most memorable highlights of this year’s event was Origence’s 30th anniversary celebration, where industry founders and legends gathered to share a special toast. Tony recognized the employees, credit unions, board members, and leaders who have contributed to great credit union achievements. Together on stage, California and Nevada Credit Union League’s former CEO Diana Dykstra, Golden 1 Credit Union’s former CEO Stan Hollen, and Tony shared challenges and lessons learned, as well as predictions for the next five years. Tony then announced the grand total for the “30 Years of Impact” campaign, which would donate $132,850 to the Children Miracle Network Hospitals across the nation.

Lending Tech Live closed with a 30-Year Birthday Bash at the San Diego Port Pavilion, where attendees dressed in their ‘90s best to enjoy live music, cocktails, and dinner.

Origence’s Lending Tech Live ‘24 was a catalyst for change in the lending industry. The insights gained, and connections made during the event are set to drive innovation and growth in the coming months and years. As the event concluded, there was a palpable sense of optimism and excitement about the future of lending technology.
