A partnership built on purpose
I would describe the relationship between Origence and the California & Nevada Credit Union Leagues in particular as not just a partnership, it's family. I mean, I think Origence has DNA that began with the California & Nevada Credit Union League, and certainly we've always viewed that relationship as family. It was germinated through The League family, and and it continues to sort of operate and act like that today. My name is Scott Simpson. I'm the president and CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and the Utah Credit Union Association. Altogether across our full footprint, we're a little over three hundred credit unions. That's California, Nevada, and Utah. Credit union leagues around the country were originally established as kind of a service aggregator. We brought the movement together. We actually stood up credit unions. That was part of the core function of credit union leagues was to create credit unions. And over time, we became an aggregator of services. So if there was a function that credit unions needed operational support with, we would get them together and create solutions. That was really the sort of germinating moment for Credit Union Leagues. The secret sauce that I see in Origence is they figured out very early on. I mean, it's germination around this idea that made credit unions able to better serve their member, to remove friction from some of the most important transactional decisions credit union members make in their lives. And they just continue to do that. It's their legacy, but it's also kind of their present state and their future is providing tools and solutions that help credit union members succeed in their lives and make, with confidence, the best decisions that they can make and the most important decisions of their lives. And when that happens, that's great for us. As a league, for us to be able to tell that story in defense of the credit union business model, it's what makes it all possible. One of the strong signals of the relationship that exists between California Credit Union League, our member credit unions, and Origence has to be the wine auction that happens for Credit Union for Kids. I mean, it's just unprecedented. They blazed a trail together. And this last year, it's ridiculous. When I was told that they were they were gonna raise... target two million dollars, I thought that's wildly aspirational. Well, they completely kicked that door down and raised two and a quarter million dollars for children's hospitals. I mean, what's better than that? The best outcome or success that we've had in our relationship is the fact that we show up to each other's events. I described it at the beginning as family, and that's what families do is they gather together. They help one another. And Origence, the team members are always at the front line when we've had our challenges in the Credit Union Association, in the league space advocating for credit unions, Origence has always been there. They show up. They're a team member. And I think the reverse is true. Because of the history and our beginning, it's just the way we continue to operate. Origence, I would describe as one of the most successful collaborative business creation moments in the history of the credit union movement. It's a CUSO. It's born out of collaboration. It's ownership is, by very nature is collaborative, and I think that successful experiment demonstrated every day is of tremendous value. It kind of lights the path for the industry, of what is possible, what can happen when credit unions get together with a great idea and try to advance it. The feedback that I receive from our credit unions about Origence and its solution has always been positive. I mean, I've been in the business for twenty two years listening to the work that credit unions are doing constantly in the marketplace and Origence and the team... And the solutions that they bring to the market have been nothing but helpful, and that feedback is constant and continuous through that twenty two years. I would suggest to any credit union that they should be looking for partners that care about their membership, that care about the business model, that care about cooperative finance and everything that that means. And Origence, in my view, has been about that from its founding. They're, by their very nature, based in their DNA, care about the exact same things that credit unions do, and that's the kind of part that credit unions should be looking for.
Scott Simpson, president and CEO of California’s Credit Unions, Nevada’s Credit Unions, and Utah’s Credit Unions reflects on the deep, family-like relationship between Origence and the League system. He shares how Origence’s roots in collaboration have shaped its mission to help credit unions better serve members through innovative, friction-free lending solutions. Highlighting shared successes such as the record-breaking Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction, Simpson describes Origence as one of the “most successful cooperative ventures in credit union history”—an enduring example of what’s possible when credit unions and partners unite around purpose, innovation and community impact.
“I described it at the beginning as family, and that’s what families do—they gather together and help one another. The Origence team members are always on the front line when we’ve had our challenges in the credit union association and league space, advocating for credit unions. Origence has always been there. They show up.”
